About Our Pastor
Bishop James H. Dixon, Jr.
Bishop James H. Dixon, Jr. was born in Perry, FL to two loving parents, the late James Sr. and Geneva Dixon. After nine months, Mr. and Mrs. Dixon moved the family, consisting of young James and his three sisters, Shirline, Sharlyn and Janis, moved to Gainesville, FL where he graduated from Buchholz High School and grew into adulthood.
In high school, he became aware of the injustices and inequalities of life and became very curious of those conditions. That curiosity led to a journey of not only finding solutions to said conditions, but to his purpose and place in life as well. Bishop Dixon spent the next six years of his life in the United States Army. Afterward he enjoyed a very lucrative employment with Gainesville Regional Utilities as a power plant operator and the lifestyle that came with it. After seven years, Bishop Dixon sensed a huge void in his life. Unaware of what it was, he walked away and left that job in pursuit of only God knows what. The next three years was a Jonah experience where he ran from himself…and from God.
And then one Saturday afternoon in 1998, he heard the voice of God telling him it was time to go to church. The next morning, he got up, got in his hooptie, and went to his childhood church. He arrived in church that morning battered, beat up and bruised as well as relieved and confused. On July 6, 1998, Bishop Dixon became born again. After a five month wilderness experience, he found a home at Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Kevin W. Thorpe. He grew exceedingly and on April 9, 2000, he became ordained as a deacon.
In his quest to find his purpose and to combat the social injustices of society, Bishop Dixon became a community organizer with the PICO National Network. It was there that he not only found his purpose, but he also found his ministry. To broaden his horizon, God then sent him to Orlando FL to organize and empower a people that had no voice. And it was there where he began to fulfill his ministry at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church under the pastorate of Rev. Errol G. Thompson, Sr. where he was licensed in the gospel ministry in 2007. In 2008, God again uprooted him and moved the family to Lafayette, LA. In 2009, he served as Interim Pastor of Zion Traveler’s Baptist Church in New Iberia, LA. After a six month tenure, God then planted Greater Faith Baptist Fellowship in the Truman projects of Lafayette, LA; and eventually God moved the church and family back to Gainesville, FL where Bishop Dixon currently serves as founding Pastor. He was consecrated as Second Presiding Bishop of Christian Baptist Fellowship Int. by and under the leadership of Bishop De 'Sean Toler, Presiding Prelate of CBF. Through it all, and it wasn’t easy, to God be the glory!
Bishop Dixon has been married since October 2, 2004 to his lovely wife, Cheryl D. Dixon who serves by his side diligently and dutifully. They also have a spirit-filled daughter, Danielle D. Dixon. Bishop Dixon’s life’s blood is to seek those who are lost, lead them to Christ, and to empower a powerless people to a better life that can only be accomplished through a personal and intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That is his ministry, and that is his mission. The Apostle Paul sums it up best when he said in Galatians 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”.
